People’s Star R Narayana Murthy has blasted the big-budget films (Chiru’s Khaidi No. 150 & Balakrishna’s Gautamiputra Satakarni) for holding maximum number of theatres for Sankranthi.

Stating that his forthcoming film Head-constable Venkatramaiah hasn’t got any theatres, Narayanamurthy appealed the chamber, producers’ council and even government to step into the issue as it’s their responsibility to ensure theatres to release a film.

Narayanamurthy breathed fire on the ongoing lease system of theatres which he alleged that it’s turning death-knell to small films. He pointed out that big-budget and star-studded films are occupying all the festivals, public holidays and prime period leaving the dull, lean period to small-films.

“Are small-films only there to feed the theatres? Can’t we have release for holidays? Let small films too have theatres and let people decide their fate. Without even releasing, how one would tell whether it’s competition or not?”

Narayanamurthy added that he is no match to Chiru, Balayya as each one has their own paths. He concluded saying his film doesn’t need more theatres like big films and asked at least one theatre in a town would do.

The moot question is will Narayanamurthy’s speech does bring any change in the system?
