Manchu Manoj’s latest film Current Theega is a remake of Tamil hit Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. G. Nageswara Reddy who made some notable comedies is the director of this film. Rakul Preeth Singh who is on a roll with back to back hits Venkatadri Express and Loukyam played the female lead and Sunny Leone makes debut in Telugu cinema with Current Teega.
Story :
Raju (Manoj) is the leader of a youth association in his village. He falls in love with a sexy English Teacher (Sunny Leone), who doesn’t care much about him. Raju falls in love again with Kavitha (Rakul Preeth Singh) who is the younger daughter of Shiva Rama Raju (Jagapathi Babu). Raju must impress Shiva Rama Raju against all the odds.
Performances:

Manchu Manoj: This is a tailor made role for Manchu Manoj and he is at his very best in this film. He is like a live wire in the film. He just nailed it in every department be it comedy, romance, action and sentiment. He has pumped a lot of iron and his huge frame is an asset in the action episodes.
Rakul Preeth Singh: Rakul is adorable as the cute college student. Her transformation from a college girl to adult is wonderful. She is drop dead gorgeous in those traditional outfits. She is surely a star material and could go places with right opportunities.
Jagapathi Babu: Jagapathi Babu is seen in the same getup as that of Legend. His characterization is done in a comical way and he did his bit with very good screen presence.
Others: Sampoornesh Babu appeared in a cameo which got good response. Vennela Kishore is good as the sidekick of the hero. Prithvi got another good role in this film after Loukyam. Tanikella Bharani, Supreeth and all others chipped in with decent performances.
On the Technical Front:
Director Nageswara Reddy adopted the Tamil film well and made sure that it suits the sensibilities of Telugu audience. He has made few changes to the script by adding action part which is the major highlight of this film. His command in dealing with entertaining episodes works in favor of the film. Nageswara Reddy has once proved that he is a minimum guarantee director who is very good at pleasing the common audience.
Music by Achu is another advantage to this film. All the songs are catchy and especially Sunny Sunny song will appeal to the masses. Background score is also topnotch. Cinematography and Editing are decent making this an all round film in terms of technical finesse. Vishnu Manchu’s production values are pretty good.
Analysis:
Current Theega has a very simple story. There is not much to rave about the story and screenplay, but the director made sure that there is ample entertainment in the film right from the start of the movie. Manchu Manoj is very good in the role of a carefree village youth. His presence and performance makes the film very enjoyable. First half of the film is supremely entertaining.
First hour itself is paisa vasool and the rest is bonus. Second half slows down a bit compared to the first half, but director made it up with a good climax that is both entertaining as well as emotional. A better second half would have made Current Theega an all round entertainer.
Despite the shortcomings, Current Theega has enough to be a safe venture at the ticket windows. It is targeted at the rural audience and has potential to do well in B and C centers. Current Theega can be watched once for Manchu Manoj’s performance, music and star cast. Manchus surely have a winner on their hands. We will get to know the range of the film within few days.
Verdict: Current Theega has Enough Power in it.
