Nani’s Yevade Subramanyam is about a journey to self discovery. It is entertaining, emotional and ‘excusably’ boring at times.

Story :

Subramanyam (Nani) is a very practical, highly ambitious guy, who always thinks about reaching top position in life. His well planned life turns chaotic with the entry of his childhood friend Rishi (Vijay). Subramanyam is forced to take a trip to Himalayas to the place called Dudh Kashi and his perception of life completely changes during the journey and Subramanyam comes back as a changed man.

Performances:

Nani is brilliant in the lead role. His flawless performance is the main highlight of this film. This is another feather in Nani’s cap. Malavika is too good as Anandi. She is highly expressive and very easy on eyes. She is believable in the role that is slightly eccentric. Vijay is lively in his limited role. Krishnam Raju is excellent and Nassar did justice to his character. Everyone is apt in their respective roles and played their part in the film.

Technicalities:

Director Nag Ashwin took a very brave decision to make debut with something like this. It is not easy to deal with a concept like Yevade Subramanyam. The director executed his ideas very well and involved the audience in this emotional trip. He is a talent to watch out for.

Producers must be lauded for backing this film which is highly risky on the commercial front. There are no compromises from their side. Music is decent and so is the cinematography. It is a feast to see Himalayas on big screen. Editing could have been crisper in the second hour.

Thumbs Up:

  • Theme
  • Nani
  • Locations
  • Thumbs Down:

Dull second half

Analysis:

Yevade Subramanyam is not a regular commercial film. It is a different movie which deals with philosophy of life. The film is very emotional and also entertaining at the same time. First hour has some good moments to cherish. Real soul of the film lies in the second half. The film gets understandably slow during this part, but the director should have shown some urgency in wrapping up the things.

Some scenes get repetitive especially in the second half. This film may not appeal to everybody. Audience who like breezy entertainers might get disconnected as the mood shifts in the second half. Director did well to stick with the theme rather than incorporating unwanted commercial elements. Yevade Subramanyam is a film with purpose and is well made product for sure.

However the film’s theme and execution may not connect with majority of Telugu audience who prefer to watch movies for the sake of entertainment. Keeping the box office prospects aside, Yevade Subramanyam is a fairly decent film that deserves to be watched on the screen for its sincerity.

Verdict: Emotional Journey of Subramanyam
