Top psephologist predicts YSRCP’s clean sweep in AP polls!

Known to be one among the India’s top psephologists, Dr Venugopala Rao of the Centre of Psephology Studies (CPS) has predicted landslide victory for YSRCP in upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

Venugopala Rao holds the distinction of making accurate predictions in every election since 2009.

His predictions on recent Telangana Assembly polls also came true.

As per his latest survey, YSRCP will win 121 to 130 Assembly seats out of 175 seats and form the next government in AP.

TDP will be confined to just 45 to 54 seats. Jana Sena will have to satisfy with just 1 or 2 seats, that too with much difficulty.

Coming to Lok Sabha results predictions, YSRCP will win 21 seats and TDP will get just 4 seats. Not to mention that Jana Sena will draw a blank.

Venugopala Rao conducted two independent surveys in AP, the first between 17-21 February with a sample size of 4,37,642 respondents and the second survey between 27-31 March with a sample size of 3,04,323 respondents in all the 175 Assembly constituencies.

The survey found that YSRCP will get a vote share of 48.1 per cent while TDP will secure 40.1 per cent and Jana Sena just 8 per cent.

In February, the difference in vote share between YSRCP and TDP was 4. 5 per cent, but increased to 8 per cent in March.

The survey revealed that Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena will show no impact in AP except East Godavari, West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. Jana Sena’s 8 per cent vote share will come mostly from these three districts.

Though Pawan is contesting from both Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram, the survey found that Pawan may win from Gajuwaka with much difficulty but has no major chances in Bhimavaram.

The survey found that Jagan’s credibility is more on the AP special status issue when compared with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

On a scale of 100, Jagan is at 90, while Naidu is at just 10. Naidu wanted to make special status a poll issue, but could not succeed, it revealed.

The survey also found that the last-minute sops extended by Naidu just before election notification like Pasupu Kunkuma, increase in pensions, unemployment allowance etc have not clicked with the voters.

Naidu’s frequent U-turns on AP special status issue also angered AP voters, the survey found.
