Rajamouli Says Only 10% Watch The Film In Theatres!

May 7, 2024

SS Rajamouli, the visionary director behind the epic “Baahubali” franchise, recently shed light on the upcoming animated series “Baahubali – Crown Of Blood” at a press meet. The discussion delved into the expansion of the “Baahubali” world and the rationale behind choosing animation for this new chapter.

Rajamouli’s response regarding the format selection was intriguing. He pointed out that despite “Baahubali” being a national phenomenon, its theatrical viewership only reached around 10 crores (100 million) people in India, a nation with a population of 1.2 billion. This translates to a mere 10% of the population experiencing the film on the big screen. While acknowledging viewership through television and OTT platforms, he emphasized the limited reach of theatrical releases.

Rajamouli further challenged the film industry’s traditional focus on theatrical releases. He highlighted the diverse landscape of entertainment options available today, including anime, novels, comic books, web series, and video games. He acknowledged that a significant segment of the audience prefers these alternative forms of entertainment, potentially overlooking theatrical releases altogether.

This revelation fueled Rajamouli’s vision for “Baahubali – Crown Of Blood.” He expressed a desire to extend the reach of the “Baahubali” universe by captivating a wider audience spectrum. The animated series format offers the potential to attract viewers who may not typically engage with theatrical releases.

While details surrounding the animated series remain under wraps, the announcement itself signifies an exciting new chapter for “Baahubali.” Meanwhile, fans eagerly await updates on Rajamouli’s upcoming globetrotting adventure drama with Mahesh Babu, currently in the scripting and pre-production phase.
