Innovative attempt with traditional food cover too could not save the two from getting caught of smuggling at Pune airport. Two Passengers were all set to fly from Pune to Dubai, before they were taken into custody for smuggling huge amounts of foreign currency.
Two passengers went through security check at Pune airport and the immigration officer smelled it wrong not with what they are carrying, but their documents didnot look authentic. Security and customs officials jumped in to check the facts and stunned to find heavy hot box of upma in check in baggage.
Though one of the passengers claim it to be just too much ‘upma’, customs officials were shocked to see him carrying Rs 1.29 Cr worth foreign currency in a black polythene bag hidden under the hot upma box. The man was held in custody and the foreign currency he is carrying was USD 86,600 and 15,000 Euros.
