Size Zero Movie Review

Story:

Soundarya (Anushka) is an obese girl hailing from a middle class family. She works in a local Chinese Fast Food Center. She falls love at first sight to Abhi (Aarya). When all the matches are turning away due to her heavy weight, Soundarya’s mother (Urvasi) forces her join Size Zero Slimming Centre run by Satyanand (Prakash Raaj) which uses some drugs to burn the fat. Following the Size Zero failure, Sweety along with her friend, Jyothi (Pavani Gangireddy) start their own natural slimming center. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Anushka is every bit what the role demands her to be. She did lot of hard work to put up that extra oodles of weight for that gigantic shoulders, round cheeks and plump figure. Even after disfiguring her figure, she is still sweet and cute with the usual smile. Aarya gets a simple role and he sleep walks through it. Sonal Chauhan also gets a limited space and in which she is okay.

Prakash Raj is good as always in the role of an antagonist. Brahmanandam is totally wasted while Pavani Gangireddy makes only a limited impression. Urvasi, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao are good even in the limited roles they are offered. Cameos by Rana Daggubati, Nagarjuna, Hansika Motwani, Tamannaah, Lakshmi Machu, Jiiva and Bobby Simha are fine.

Technical Performances:

Size Zero storyline has similarities to that of Malayalam movie, ‘De Thadiya’, Director Prakash Kovelamudi tried hand with decent concepts like Unnatural weight reduction, Unconditional Love, pre-marriage issues etc but did not have a credible plotline and screenplay (by Kanika) to make it engaging.

Further the entertainment levels are not on expected levels disappointing the audience. The first half shows us that there is no direction to the film but there is no redemption even in the second half. Further the climax is even disappointing.

Nirav Shah’s cinematography is disappointing. Editing and Art direction are equally appalling. MM Keeravani’s music is middling and the BGM adds grace to the proceedings. The CG work is good while Production values are just fine.

Highlights:

  • Anushka.
  • Comedy here and there

Drawbacks:

  • Screenplay
  • Second half
  • Weak emotions

Final Say:

We have seen several films on Weight issues like Kobbaribondam to Laddu Babu. The director had added few new issues like unhealthy diet, Slimming Centres angle, Marriage issues, innate love, message etc. Even though the intent is good, Prakash’s inability to make a tasty dish foiled the attempt. Try this one at your own risk.
