When Prime Minister Narendra Modi put into effect the Demonetisation of currency notes in the country, it unleashed chaos everywhere. People were lining up in long lines, spanning kilometers, to get new notes in place of old ones, and despite that, there was no guarantee of the same.
During that peak time, there was one person though, in the entire country, to whom it was next to nothing to possess thousands of the new 500 Rupee notes. Sekhar Reddy had with him, at the time, new notes that summed up to around 247.13 Crores. This was a very mysterious and shocking incident in all aspects, raising several doubts over how Reddy came to possess so many new notes, despite not being a highly influential person.
The CBI had filed a case against Sekhar Reddy, suspecting the means by which he came to possess the money he did, and investigation had been going on for the past four years. Now, the CBI special court in Chennai has given a clean chit to Sekhar, after the CBI has failed to find any proof of foul play or illegal acquisition of the money. In fact, it is being said that the CBI had themselves requested the CBI special court to give Sekhar a clean chit, after no apparent foul play.
Back then, here were speculations that Reddy had with him nearly 2 Thousand Crore Rupees, illegally, out of which only 200 odd Crores had come to light. Sekhar Reddy was a binami of Chandrababu Naidu’s at the time, and was also a member of the TTD. However, after Chandrababu’s regime, Reddy was not a member of the TTD board anymore. The YSRCP though, once again made Reddy a member of the TTD board, despite his connection to Chandrababu. This is in spite of the YSRCP’s hatred for the TDP Chief. This is an action that surprised many – and an action that the YSRCP is yet to justify.
