Boney Kapoor Explains Why His ‘Maidaan’ Failed!

May 13, 2024

Bollywood is scarcely producing good content these days. But not all good content is getting commercial success and the recent release ‘Maidaan’ is a big example of it. Starring Ajay Devgn as the main lead, this movie is a biopic of Syed Abdul Rahim who is the legendary Indian football coach.

While it has been praised heavily by every critic and people who watched the movie, ‘Maidaan’ did not get enough money at the box office. It minted a 50 crore nett mark and it ended up as a failure considering the budget. Talking about the film’s final outcome, producer Boney Kapoor explained why it failed to bring the audience to theatres.

He said, “The subject we chose was fantastic, and the actor (Ajay Devgn) was superb, but somehow we didn’t recognize the demands of the audience. The audiences today want all front-footed action films like RRR, Jawan, and Pathaan.” This is true to a certain extent in Tollywood too.

The box office has been very dull after the Sankranti season. ‘Tillu Square’ was the only big hit and everyone is waiting to witness big star hero projects like ‘Game Changer’, ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Devara’ and others. Distributors are hoping that these pan-Indian projects would bring the bucks but not the other films.
