Police Movie Review

Story :

Joseph Kurivilla (Vijay) is a baker who runs a bakery in Kerala. He lives with his only daughter Nivi (Baby Nainika) and Rajendra (Rajendran). He adores her very much as she is the only one she have. Annie (Amy Jackson), teacher of Nivi has a secret crush on him.

One day she rescues Nivi from an accident and also files a police complaint. But strangely Joseph tries to get her withdraw the case causing a doubt for Annie. Later Joseph is attacked that night and that takes us to the real name of Joseph and his past which forms the rest of the story.

Cast and Performance :

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is at tremendous ease and walks through comfortably in the role which has three different variations. Samantha is seen as a doctor in the film and she is very good. Baby Nainika, daughter of yesteryear actress, Meena is truly adorable and cute. Amy Jackson is good as a teacher. She shines well besides Vijay. Radhika is fine while Rajendra manages to bring in few laughs here and there. Prabhu is impressive as ever. Director Mahendran is superb in his role which also happens to be his acting debut.

Technical Performances:

Basic plot of the story is simple. We find the influence of AR Murugudoss and Shankar’s film very clearly. Atlee managed to come up with good screenplay which is an asset for the film. Telugu dialogues penned by Sahiti are good and are in good sync. GV Prakash Kumar came up with good tunes for his 50th album.

But lyrics sounded very odd as we find no sync. The back ground score is superb. George C Williams’ camera work is superb, The lighting he used helped in bringing richness to the visuals. Editing by Ruben is fine. Action Sequences came out well and Production Values are good.

Plus Points:

1. Performances particularly Vijay and Baby Nainika

2. Background score by GV Prakash Kumar

Minus Points :

1.Songs with non-sync lyrics

2. Routine Story

Verdict :

The first half of the film goes on well with a good interval bang. Things get very interestingly ones Joseph’s true identity is revealed. The interval prompts audience to come up with their own versions. However Atlee failed to come up with an impressive second half. The movie finally ends up as an average fare.
