Overseas: Minimum Target Of Katamarayudu

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Khaidi No.150’ performed exceptionally well in the Telugu states but it couldn’t create the same impact at US box office. Now, Pawan Kalyan’s film has to put up better performance than Khaidi to bring profits to the US distributors.

Khaidi No.150 collected decent USD 2.44M in the US but the distributors weren’t left with any profits, courtesy high price dolled out for the rights and on promotions.

The overseas rights of Pawan’s upcoming film ‘Katamarayudu’ have reportedly been sold in the range of Rs 11-12 Cr. USD 2M+ is bare minimum for this film to land the distributor in safe zone. USD 2.5-3M gross is expected by the US distributor who invested such high amount on the film so ‘Katamarayudu’ needs to perform better than Khaidi No.150.

It may be noted that Pawan’s last release, ‘Sardaar’ was also sold for high price as of Katamarayudu and everyone know the fate of that film. Pawan commands huge fan base in overseas, which is evident from the premier gross of Sardaar but he needs at least average content to shake box office.

The tremendous response for the teaser is an indication of to what extent Pawan Kalyan’s screen presence can impact even a remake. If the same Youtube phenomenon repeats at box office, it wouldn’t be hard for Katamarayudu to displace Mahesh Babu’s ‘Srimanthudu’ from the All Time 2nd place at the US box office.

Makers are planning for a Ugadhi release for Katamarayudu, this year’s first biggie of summer.
