Kamal Haasan Reveals Inspiration for ‘Bharateeyudu’ Sequel

June 3, 2024

The highly anticipated film “Bharateeyudu 2” arrives not just as a new release, but as a cherished memory refusing to fade. Its very existence is intertwined with the legacy of its predecessor and the dedication of its team.

At the recent audio launch event, Kamal Haasan revealed a fascinating backstory. In 1996, both Haasan and the legendary Shivaji Ganesan held scripts with similar themes of vigilante justice. Demonstrating immense faith in a young director named Shankar, Haasan stepped aside and allowed Shankar to helm “Indian” (the original “Bharateeyudu”) with Ganesan. Years later, the idea of a sequel resonated with Haasan, reuniting him with Shankar.

The project wasn’t without its hurdles. However, Subhaskaran of Leica Productions emerged as a champion, “bringing it home” as Haasan phrased it. This unwavering support system, coupled with the collective spirit of the cast and crew, fueled the creation of “Bharateeyudu 2.” The star-studded audio launch itself served as a testament to this unity, with celebrities like Simbu, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and A.R. Rahman attending. Shruti Haasan, Mouni Roy, and Shankar’s children further graced the event with their performances.

Haasan expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone involved, including Anirudh for the electrifying music, Ravi Varman for the captivating visuals, and the late Manobala and Vivek, whose on-screen presence will be deeply missed. Shankar mirrored these sentiments, praising Haasan’s dedication and unparalleled talent, calling him “an actor unlike any other in the world.” He also acknowledged the powerful performances expected from S.J. Surya, Samuthrakhani, and the leading ladies, Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh.

Scheduled for a July 12th release in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, “Bharateeyudu 2” promises to be a visual and emotional spectacle. Yet, a crucial question lingers: can it live up to the legacy of the original film? Only time, and the audience’s response, will reveal the answer. However, one thing is certain – “Bharateeyudu 2” arrives not merely as a new movie, but as a continuation of a cinematic legacy, shaped by passion, perseverance, and a collective belief in the power of storytelling.
