No salary cuts for AP employees from now!

Notwithstanding the severe financial crunch being faced by the Andhra Pradesh government, YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been continuing his welfare schemes and releasing funds to each scheme generously.

On Thursday, Jagan announced a very pleasing news for the state government employees, who have been facing a 50 per cent cut in their salaries for the last two months due to lockdown to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

He gave a green signal for payment of full salaries for nearly four lakh employees with effect from May. It means, employees will not have any cuts in their salaries to be paid on June 1. Orders to this effect have been issued from the chief minister’s office to the finance department and treasury.

The Central Finance Monitoring System will make changes in the treasury software by Thursday evening of Friday morning.

What is happier news for the employees is that Jagan is also contemplating reimbursing the 50 per cent money deducted from the employees’ salaries in the last two months. A decision to this effect will be taken shortly.

It is not exactly known whether it will be reimbursed at one go or paid in two or three instalments. But that will be a big relief to the employees, who are expressing happiness over the chief minister’s decision.

It is not exactly known whether the restoration of full salaries and reimbursement of deducted amount would be applicable even to the IAS and IPS officers who had been imposed salary cuts up to 60 per cent.

Similarly, public representatives, starting from the chief minister to sarpanch, had to forego 100 per cent salary cut during the lockdown period. There is no information about restoration of their full salaries for them.
