Modi’s Downfall Began : Survey

Here is the news that may not go down well with Narendra Modi and his fans. As per a fresh survey, majority in country today opined that Narendra Modi is not worth of another chance to rule India. In a sample of 15,859 people from 19 states, 47 percent voted against Modi rule in 2019. While the 39 percent voted that Modi deserves power in 2019, the rest (14 percent) have opined that they have not decided yet – keeping their options open. The survey was conducted by ABP News-CSDS Mood of the Nation survey.

What’s more startling is that the survey numbers are close to the numbers recorded for the UPA in July 2013 ahead of 2014 elections. The survey held nine months before 2014 general elections indicated that 39 percent were against Congress-led UPA then, whereas 31 percent were in favour of Manmohan Singh as the PM while remaining 30 percent were undecisive then. Proving the survey right, UPA was restricted to only 60 seats in 2014 giving a rousing victory to Modi-led BJP.

Meanwhile, the fresh survey indicated that anti-Modi sentiment is high among country’s religious minorities whereas Hindus are very slightly in favour of Modi but even they are found to be divided into half. Among Hindu voters, 44 percent are in favour of Modi being given a second chance whereas 42 percent are opposing him. While Dalits and Adivasis are expressing strong dissent against Modi, the percentage of OBCs opposing him are at 42 percent. If elections are held right now, 32 percent of voters said they would vote for Modi.

The survey’s results proved a sharp decline in the image of Modi. The same survey which was conducted five months ago stated that 34 percent would vote for him if elections are held right away then. This two percent drop is hinting the downfall of Modi.

Steep increase in petrol prices and taxes, lack of proper services, implementation of GST, Demonetisation, broke out of bank scams all said to have worked against Modi.
