KCR’s Chandi Yagam Funded By College Groups!

Hyderabad: The controversies surrounding Telangana CM K.Chandrasekhar Rao’s Aayutha Chandi Maha Yagam from December 23 to 27 refuse to die down even after the CM gave a clarification that he was spending his own money and that of ‘like-minded friends with belief in God and yagams’. KCR said around Rs 7 crore is being spent on yagam. However, an interesting debate is going on in political circles over who are those ‘like-minded people’ who came forward to invest crores on KCR’s yagam.

Grapevine is that two big corporate college groups, namely, Narayana and Sri Chaitanya Groups, which have a vast network of colleges in Telangana, more so hundreds of colleges in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts itself, were funding the yagam. Speculations are rife that the Telangana government had recently issued show-cause notices to hundreds of colleges owned by these two groups, for running unauthorised colleges without seeking approval from Board of Intermediate Education. It is being said that Rs 5 crore penalty was levied on both these groups. The timing of issuing showcause notices to these colleges fuelled speculations that the TRS leaders were expecting funds from these groups to conduct yagam.

To avoid cases in future, it is said that the owners of both these groups came forward to fund the yagam instead of paying Rs 5 crore penalty to government. In this way, they want to please TRS bosses besides ensuing that there would be no problem for their colleges in future. Former Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud too alleged that corporate colleges were funding chandi yagam and said if his charges are false, the TRS leaders should come out with details on who are funding crores for yagam.
