‘GST’ Scenes to be Chopped from Superstar’s Film?

It is more often than not we see big films engulfing in controversies, either pre-release or post-release or both. Tamil star hero Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s latest release ‘Mersal’, which hit screens on October 18, is no exception.

Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fumed at Vijay and the makers of ‘Mersal’ for allegedly making a mockery of Prime Minister Narendra Modi govt. implemented historical Goods and Services Tax (GST). The leaders alleged that ‘Mersal’ had ‘inaccurately’ referred GST system and demanded for the removal of those references.

In a particular scene, Vijay’s character says that Singapore has 7 percent GST and the govt. there offers free medical treatment to people, but Indians do not get it despite paying 28 percent GST.

Dialogues like these haven’t gone well with the BJP outfits and they have publicly condemned the makers and demanded for the scenes to be removed. After facing severe criticism from state’s BJP unit and presumably from Centre too, the producer of ‘Mersal’ is reportedly contemplating on chopping off all the references to GST.
