Covid-19: Kerala to implement odd-even scheme for vehicles

As the 21-day national lockdown has been extended, the state government had presented a proposition to the Center that partitioned Kerala into four zones — Red, Orange An, Orange B and Green — and restricted facilitated in three of these zones as of now.

From Monday onwards, a possibility of normalcy will bounce back in atleast 7 out of 14 districts as the eateries will open hereafter and a restricted number of private vehicles under the odd-even scheme will be permitted for movement.

There will be no relaxation in the red zone unlike other orange and green zones. After analysing the data from past seven days, the count of positive cases in the state was found to be minimal in single digit and the recuperation rate has risen. Following which, the Center acknowledged Kerala’s proposition on Friday.

From Monday, ordinary life will return back in two locale — Kottayam and Idukki — named green zones since they at present have no positive cases. A few limitations will be lifted in Orange B zone locale — Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad — too from Monday.

Cafes and restaurants can work during normal hours in Kottayam and Idukki while in Orange B regions, restaurants can only operate from 7 am to 7 pm however they need to mandate social distancing standards and hand sanitizers. Every individual who venture out of their homes have been instructed to wear face masks.
