As part of this year’s annual appraisal cycle, leading IT giant Cognizant is planning to trim down 6,000 employees in one go. The American-headquartered MNC holds around 2,60,000 employees worldwide.

The company says the layoffs are not new and with that development, they are hopeful about good shift in growth numbers. Usually, Cognizant dismiss 1-2 percent of under-performing staff every year. But, never in the past, have they performed such a massive cut down. Majorly, this decision is expected to hit the junior level-employees and those who are on bench.

Automation is other important factor that is hitting the work force in all major IT companies, including Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini and others.

‘With a view to meet client’s demand, we are planning to filter out the employees who won’t add up to meet their needs. Only those who exhibited a bad performance are being transitioned out of company,’ said an official spokesperson of Cognizant.

‘Like in the past, Cognizant is always committed to tackle inefficiency and inconsistent workforce, and we would equally hire new employees based on the requirement’ added the representative from company.
