The incessant rainfall over the last couple of weeks has literally paralyzed one of the historic cities in India, Chennai. Completely flooded roads, residential colonies and even houses coupled with power cuts and shortage of food supplies have left the Chennaiites in a state of panic and desperately looking for help.
The heavy downpour has resulted in the closure of most of the corporate offices and schools and colleges. Social media has been abuzz with photographs of the main buildings of software giants like Infosys, Accenture and Olympia Tech waterlogged completely.
However, braving such a terrible catastrophe, Chennaiites showed courage and proved their big heart as many institutions, college buildings, office campuses and even normal citizens opened their arms to the flood affected people stranded in water without help. Temporary shelters, food and other basic amenities like mobile phone charging and recharges were arranged for the victims.
Apart from the government staff, even film stars have joined common people in relief measures and are offering monetary and other related assistance to those affected by the floods. Heartbreaking fact is that the national media has completely ignored Chennai’s woes when the help was needed the most.
