The demise of Karunanidhi who helmed DMK for 5 decades has created vacuum in party’s top leadership. Karuna’s two sons – Alagiri and Stalin – are locking horns for very longtime and with their father’s death, the fight between the brothers over party’s reigns is back. It’s not even a week since Karuna dead, but succession war is back.
Karuna’s elder son and expelled leader Alagiri has stated that DMK is not functioning properly. He further questioned that why did DMK lose deposit in RK Nagar by poll that was facilitated after Jaya’s demise. He claimed that his father’s “true loyalists” are with him.
Speaking to media after paying homage at his father’s burial site in Marina beach with his family members, Alagiri said he came to express his anguish to his father. “En Thalaivar (my leader) Kalaignar’s true loyalists are with me. All are supporting me. Time will tell,” Alagiri said. Son Durai Dhayanidhi and daughter Kayalvizhi were accompanying Alagiri.
