BO: ‘Mad’ Rush & Cancellation of Shows!

The recent scenario at the box office in the Tollywood film industry has been quite unusual. With multiple new films releasing at the theatres, the trade was curious to see which film would fare well at the box office. However, except for the film “Mad,” no other film kept the audiences hooked.

In many places, the evening and night shows were canceled for some of these new releases because of the poor turnout of crowds. Among all the movies, “Mad” is the only film that seems to have garnered a passable response from the audience and is collecting decent collections. It also can ring in more numbers at the box office.

Films like Colors Swati’s “Month of Madhu,” Sudheer Babu’s “Mama Mashchindra,” Muralidharan’s biopic “800,” and Siddharth’s “Chinna” have faced difficulties attracting audiences in many places, except for a few multiplexes in cities. All these four films had notable faces in the leads, but surprisingly, they failed to attract viewers.

Sometimes, morning shows had to be canceled in various B and centers as the theatre owners predicted negligible film revenues. Hence, they opted for “Jawan” and “Skanda” to keep the business running.

Buyers and exhibitors are understandably concerned and are expressing their worries regarding this poor reception from the audience. They believe that the situation may not improve until the release of films like “Bhagwant Kesari,” “Leo,” and “Tiger Nageswara Rao” for Dussehra.

Until then, they are hoping for rental assistance and praying for a turnaround in fortunes. The situation is relatively better in cities like Hyderabad, Vizag, and Guntur, but ticket sales have been lackluster in areas with a strong mass audience.

On the flip side, other language films like “Mission Raniganj,” “Dhono,” and “Exorcist Believer” are also drawing large audiences.

Apart from “Mad,” this Friday’s box office performancehas been disappointing.
