There seems to be one disaster in waiting for Telangana. Of course this may not be having any Andhra-Telangana angle but at the same time it may become one, looking at the efforts of TRS & Co very soon. The airport was initially established by the Nizam of Hyderabad in early 20th century.
However, with Hyderabad’s development, Begumpet had no looking back with the airport also catering to international destinations, and moreover, being in the heart of Hyderabad, it served the city so well. But the rise of Shamshabad airport’s formal operations clipped the story of this airport.
With a staggering 800 acres in the heart of Hyderabad, it is indeed a goldmine but at the same time it is also being used by special aircraft, VVIPs etc. Now, the union government is reportedly planning to handover the airport formally to Air force in the coming days, since it has all vital infrastructure intact.
