Baahubali Writer’s Wife & Prostitute Logic

Top director Rajamouli’s father and senior writer Vijayendra Prasad has been in industry for three decades, and has penned several blockbusters. He however came into prominence only in the recent years with Baahubali, Bajarangi Bhaijaan, Mersal, Magadheera, Eega etc. For having written so many blockbusters, he is expected to be knowing the formula of a crowd-pleasing script. When the same was asked, the senior writer has replied with an interesting anecdote.

Prasad said that there was nothing like a hit formula, and the only golden rule is – people should be offered wholesome entertainment when they come to theatres to watch a movie, all age groups must get their dose of entertainment. Now, one may question what is ‘wholesome entertainment’? The Baahubali writer has an answer ready for this query.

“Let me explain this by telling the difference between a wife and a prostitute. A wife is someone who worries about a husband’s well-being. For ex: she stops her husband form eating excessive sweets with the fear of diabetes or other ailments. However, if a man goes to a prostitute, she wouldn’t care whether he drinks or smokes, all she wants from him is his money, for that she would offer him everything that she has, in the manner he likes.

While penning a story, one should keep two things in mind. The base of the story should be as honest as a wife, and all the embellishments (commercial ingredients) you wrap around the story should act like a prostitute, focusing on entertainment and ensuring money from audience,” Vijayendra Prasad reportedly told.

In simple words, he sort of conveyed that a story must have the qualities of both the wife and the prostitute to ensure success.
