Avunu-2 Movie Review

Avunu 2 is sequel to 2012 releases Avunu with the same cast and crew. This suspense thriller first part did astonishingly well at box office. Let’s see how this Avunu 2 is going to be.

Story:

After the ghost Captain Raju’s attack, the affected couple Mohini (Poorna) and Harsha (Harshvardhan Rane) shifts to a new location in Hyderabad. While Harsha is enthusiastic about the new life ahead, Mohini is still trying to come in terms with the deadly recent past.

A Naga Sadhu meets Mohini and gives her locket which protects her. After some days, Mohini starts experiencing the ghostly presence. Later to put a check to all these, Harsha brings in Sanjana (Sanjjanna) to find out the presence of ghost by the reading on her thermal camera. What happens next has to be seen on the big screen.

Performances:

Poorna is good in her role but most part of the film, she is seen screaming with a terrified look. Harsha is ordinary as usual. Ravi Varma is seen as a Schizophrenic patient, only to irritate the audience. Sanjjanna and Nikitha just grabs the pass marks. Chakravarthy just okay in the limited role.
Analysis:

Avunu 2 runs on a very familiar lines to Telugu audience like changing to new home, ghost following the couple, male is haunted one etc. It is a beaten to death formula from ages in Telugu and it is sad to see a talented director like Ravibabu using the same line. He even drawn inspirations from several Hollywood films like he Entity (1982), The Haunted (1991) and Paranormal Activity.

People watching Avunu 2 feels like they are watching the first part once again. The Second part is also about the ghost trying to rape Poorna. You feel the ambience, camera angles all similar to Avunu. Apart from the routine story, the movie do not have the necessary fear factor to keep the audience glued. Most of the things perceived in the film are either silly or predictable.

Technical Performances:

It is all clear that Ravibabu had failed as a director. The Back Ground Music scored by Shekar Chandra is very loud. Camera work is totally ineffective with stupid angles and static camera some times. Editing should have been more crispier in the second half. Production Values are adequate.

Final Word:

Avunu 2 is a cheap attempt to cash the success of Avunu. The director seem to have lost his interest midway in the film resulting in a total haywire of the second half. The ridiculous climax further worsen the impression on the film. Give it a miss!
