AP government says it cannot conduct local body elections!

The Andhra Pradesh government was very much eager to conduct the local body elections back in March, and when the SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar postponed the elections due to Coronavirus, the consequences Nimmagadda had to face are public knowledge.

This is especially why It is now surprising to hear that the Andhra Pradesh Government doesn’t want to conduct the local body elections right now, considering the situation of Coronavirus. The advocate of the AP government has told the High Court of Andhra Pradesh taht the government doesn’t wish to conduct the local body elections right now, as the situations are not very favorable, with Coronavirus still at large in the state. The advocate also requested the HC to send notices to the State Election Commission, informing the same to them.

The High Court has reportedly questioned the AP government the difficulties in going ahead with the local body elections, given that many states are going ahead with general elections itself. On the other hand, the HC has also sent notices to the SEC, and has asked them to respond on the same, as soon as possible. The next hearing of this case has been postponed to November 2nd.

Apart from this, a petition filed by Thandava Yogesh, requesting for local body elections to be conducted in AP, has also resurfaced once again, and the hearing of that petition is also expected to take place simultaneously.
