AP CM Jagan writes to Modi seeking Bharat Ratna for SPB

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written a letter to the prime minister Narendra Modi, seeking the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for SP Balasubramaniam.

Balasubramaniam is a native of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and the state government has now requested the prime minister to confer Bharat Ratna upon the legendary singer.

“As a tribute to the legendary singer for his outstanding contribution in the field of music and art, I request you to confer Bharat Ratna upon him,” Jagan wrote in his letter to Modi.

The prime minister is expected to reciprocate to Jagan’s letter soon.

Notably, Balasubramaniam had won 25 Andhra Pradesh Nandi awards for his work in Telugu cinema apart from numerous other awards like Filmfare, Silver peacock, etc. SPB was a recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards as well.

Balasubramaniam breathed his last on September 25th after a prolonged battle with Covid-19 related illness.
