After intense online protests by angry young Indians against moral policing that has been rampant across the country by the police and other authorities, the Park Mein PDA campaign has now gained momentum with young protesting couples thronging to public places in metro cities with their friends, partners and loved ones to indulge in the public display of affection (PDA) like hugging and kissing.
After metro cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, new Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai, the #ParkMeinPDA has now entered Hyderabad, with university students from Hyderabad Central University (HCU) and the members of Hyderabad for Feminism group pledging to take part in the #ParkMeinPDA protest. “I will hold hands with my friend, and we will even hug all this in broad daylight, in a public place the Sanjeeviah Park,” said Amritha Lawrence, a photographer.
Recently, the Mumbai police raided several hotels and lodges and arrested young couples in love who were spending their private moments. These raids were termed as interruption of privacy by the young gunslinger of the country, and as a protest, they chose to indulge what the moral police hate to see, PDA.
Gitanjali Joshua,the young lady who’s leading the #ParkMeinPDA campaign through Hyderabad for Feminism Facebook group in Hyderabad, says that couples are often harassed even for just being together in public.
