Taking inspiration from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s most successful low cost food scheme, Amma Canteens, the Delhi government is all set to start Aam Admi Party Canteens. Poor, working class and the common people can avail meals at as low as Rs. 10 maximum. The government has said that AAP Canteens will be set up to provide ‘hygienic, nutritious and good quality food.’
The Delhi Dialogue Commission’s (DDC) proposal to provide low cost meals has been approved by the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday. The DDC had conducted a detailed survey in Tamil Nadu and Odisha where such low cost food canteens have been flourishing with huge response from the public.
The AAP Canteens will be set up within one or two months and in the first phase, hospitals, colleges, industrial areas and commercial hubs will be covered. The state’s Department of Food and Supplies would run the canteens. However, the DDC has not furnished the estimated cost of the project to the media.
