Superstar’s Property Sealed Under Benami Act

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has found himself in a legal mess after one of his luxurious properties in Mumbai has been attached by the Income Tax (IT) department under Benami Act.

According to the reports, SRK had initially purchased a sprawling property at Alibaug as agricultural land for farming, but he turned it into a luxurious farmhouse, equipped with amenities such as swimming pool and private helipad, for his personal use. The property’s worth has been shown in documents as nearly Rs 15 Cr, but the IT dept. claims its market price to be over Rs 70 Cr. SRK is also accused of purchasing the property using his in-laws as his benamis.

Stating all these factors, the IT dept. has reportedly declared the transaction as ‘benami’ and charged the actor with the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions (PBPT) Act.

In his defence, SRK has the choice of appealing to the Tribunal within 45 days or in the High Court within 60 days from the date of the IT order.
