China Loves Baahubali More Than India

Released in July 2015, SS Rajamouli’s epic magnum opus Baahubali The Beginning recreated box-office history and ended up as India’s third highest grossing film, after Aamir Khan’s PK and Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

The film released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi versions and grossed nearly 585 crores worldwide. Now, Baahubali is slated for a gigantic release in a whopping 6,000 screens across China in May. The film was acquired by the leading Chinese film distribution house E Stars Films.

The same distribution house gave Aamir Khan’s PK a huge release in 5,000 screens in May last year. Incidentally, Baahubali’s Chinese release will surpass the film’s Indian and worldwide release count by miles.

Last year, Baahubali was released in nearly 4,000 screens across the world including all versions. This is by far the biggest ever release for an Indian film.

With the Chinese screen count crossing Baahubali by more than 2,000 screens, one can’t help but say that the Chinese are showering more love on Baahubali than we Indians did. Let’s hope that Baahubali rules the Chinese box-office this summer just as it did in India last year.
