In a tragic incident, at least 14 children have lost their lives and another 7 injured after a speeding train rammed into a school van this morning in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The unfortunate mishap took place at 7 am. The mini van carrying 25 students and staff of Divine Public School was passing through a railway crossing and was stalled on the tracks suddenly, before being hit by the train. Reports said that 14 children were killed on the spot and 7 victims, including students and staff, were admitted to a hospital with critical injuries.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath rushed to the accident spot and told the media that the tragedy happened due to the driver’s negligence. “I am briefed that the school van driver was wearing earphones while driving. This is a case of pure negligence,” said the CM.
Yogi has ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident. Rs 2 lakhs compensation has been announced for the victims’ families. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind expressed their condolences to the bereaved families.
