Why Babu – Modi Meet Got Postponed?

After the centre’s denial of special status to AP and the following protests from the opposition parties and the public, AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that he took Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appointment to discuss the special status, special package and other pending issues like Polavaram project and the capital construction. The appointment was initially scheduled at 4 pm on 20th August (tomorrow).

However, in a last minute change, the Prime Minister’s Office has informed the AP government that due to unavoidable circumstances, tomorrow’s appointment has been postponed to any day among 25th, 28th, 29th and 31st of this month. Meanwhile, Babu had a meeting with the state’s finance ministry and asked the officials to prepare a file to be submitted to Modi.

While this postponement has upset the AP Chief, it also gave him some time to strategically push Modi towards announcing the special package for the state, just like he showered Bihar with a special package of Rs.1.25 lakh crore in a bid to win big in the upcoming assembly elections. While the same number for AP might sound too superficially optimistic, Babu would surely be trying his best to sternly convince his NDA partner to offer a decent package.

On the other hand, even Modi is said to have discussed about the special package with the union finance minister Arun Jaitely, who will also take part in Babu-Modi meet. Even though Babu’s visit is nothing but a headache for Modi, the PM cannot ignore is 2014 election partner keeping in mind the 2019 elections. Babu could be one of the bankable lifelines for BJP, if Congress manages to pull off a stiff opposition in the run up for 2019 elections.
