Will KCR align with Left Parties for 2023 elections in Telangana?

Will Telangana Chief Minister and crafty political strategist KCR join hands with the CPI and the CPM for the 2023 assembly elections? KCR’s latest moves point out that he is seriously thinking of entering into an alliance with the Left parties for the upcoming assembly elections. Sources say KCR has already opened discussions with the Left leaders on the issue.

Realising that the tide is slowly but surely turning against the TRS government, KCR feels that it would be extremely difficult to repeat the 2018 assembly election performance. Recent surveys too have shown that there is pent up anger against the government among women, youth and the rural population on issues like unemployment, price rise and high level of corruption. Hence KCR feels that an alliance with the left Parties would be a clincher in several constituencies.

Though the Leftists are unable to win any seats in the state, they have considerable presence in Nalgonda and Khammam districts. They can decide the winner and the vanquished in at least 15 assembly constituencies. Hence, an alliance would be of a great help to the TRS. The TRS is mulling giving two seats each to the CPI and the CPM in the bargain.

Sources say that the Left Parties still hold sway in constituencies like Miryalguda, Munugode, Devarakonda and Husnabad. Insiders say that KCR had held preliminary discussions with top Left leaders Pinarayi Vijayan, Sitaram Yechuri and Narayana in January itself. Sources say that the Left Parties too are amenable to the idea of fighting together against the BJP.
