Allari Naresh: “Comedy is a Dying Genre”?

March 28, 2024

Allari Naresh, a prominent Telugu actor known for his comedic roles in films like “Kitakitalu” and “Seema Sastri,” has garnered attention for his recent shift in film choices. The unveiling of the teaser for his upcoming film, “Aa Okkati Adakku,” in Hyderabad, sparked discussions about this change in direction.

During the event, Naresh addressed his move away from slapstick comedy. He acknowledged the evolving nature of humor, stating, “The kind of comedy that worked in films like ‘Kithakithalu’ wouldn’t fly today.” He elaborated on the growing sensitivity of audiences, explaining, “Jokes about body shaming or someone’s appearance are simply not acceptable anymore. Creating humor that doesn’t offend anyone is a challenge.” This cautious approach, he admitted, has led him to be more selective when choosing comedic projects.

However, Naresh remains dedicated to entertaining audiences. He acknowledged the efficiency of comedic films, stating, “Comedy films are generally quicker to shoot.” He expressed his reservations about the current trend of comedy scripts, saying, “While I’ve received several comedy scripts lately, many rely on spoofs, parodies, or even double entendres.” Highlighting the importance of family-friendly entertainment, he emphasized, “My father always emphasized the importance of keeping family audiences comfortable. I will only do films that offer healthy, wholesome comedy.”

“Aa Okkati Adakku,” featuring Naresh alongside Faria Abdullah and Vennela Kishore, promises to deliver a fresh take on comedy. The film is slated for release in April and aims to showcase Naresh’s signature comedic charm while adhering to his principles of clean humor. This shift in focus reflects Naresh’s commitment to adapting to the evolving tastes of the audience while staying true to his core values of providing wholesome entertainment.
