YVS Chowdary: A Director’s Potential Return to Tollywood Glory

March 26, 2024

YVS Chowdary was once a titan of Telugu cinema, reigning supreme in the 2000s. Films like “Laahiri Laahiri Laahirilo,” “Seetayya,” and the iconic “Devadasu” established him as a brand synonymous with grand visuals and captivating narratives. However, his golden touch seemingly vanished with the extravagant production “Okka Magadu” in 2007. Despite immense hype, the film met with disastrous results, marking a turning point in his career.

Subsequent attempts at revival with “Saleem” and “Rey” proved unsuccessful, mirroring the fate of his production venture “Nippu” starring Ravi Teja. This string of failures led Chowdary to step away from directing for nearly a decade.

Yet, whispers of a comeback are stirring within the Tollywood industry. Rumors suggest a potential return to form, with Chowdary at the helm, launching a new hero – none other than the grandson of the legendary Nandamuri Harikrishna.

The proposed hero is the son of the late Janaki Ram, elder brother to actors Kalyan Ram and NTR Jr. This potential collaboration holds special significance considering Harikrishna’s four-film association with Chowdary, signifying a strong creative bond between them. Further strengthening this connection is Chowdary’s longstanding admiration for the Nandamuri family. Notably, NTR Sr.’s photo graces the opening and closing credits of every film produced under Chowdary’s “Bommarillu” banner. Additionally, his unwavering respect is evident in the annual newspaper advertisements he places to commemorate NTR Sr.’s birth and death anniversaries.

Chowdary’s legacy as a hitmaker who launched the careers of Ram Pothineni and Sai Dharam Tej precedes him. If these rumors hold weight, Tollywood could witness a fascinating new chapter unfold – the return of a celebrated director, potentially shaping the debut of a new star. Only time will tell if this collaboration comes to fruition and ushers in a triumphant return for YVS Chowdary.
