Court fumes over Telangana government’s negligence

Day after day, it is becoming more and more apparent that the Telangana government is behaving in a very reckless and cavalier manner with respect to the way they are handling the situation of Coronavirus in the state.

The High Court of Telangana state has repeatedly ordered the government to submit to it the details of the number of beds available in all the hospitals of the state, the number of cases recorded in a day, the number of tests conducted in a day, the rules being followed with respect to isolation and containment zones. The High Court had also ordered the government to keep the people of the state up to date, with the help of a health bulletin on a daily basis.

On Monday, the High Court once again condemned the government for its repeated ignorance towards the orders that have been given by the Court. After hearing a set of petitions, the High COurt said that the government has paid a deaf ear to the High Court since June 8th, and that it has no respect for the judiciary.

The High Court said that it was clear that the government was not maintaining transparency in the way it has been handling the situation, and even questioned the AG if the government was faking the reports that it was releasing to the public. The State Chief Secretary and Principal Secretaries of the Medical, Health and Municipal Administration departments are to appear before the court on 28 July, 2020.

Furthermore, the court asked the AG, B.S.Prasad, to submit an affidavit, detailing the reasons why the government hasn’t been submitting the records of what has been asked of it.

The government hasn’t responded to any of the court’s orders so far, and it is now to be seen if it will respond to the current orders. All in all, whatever the government is doing or not doing, is indeed putting the lives of the people of the state at great risk.
