AP government needs more money from center for capitals

The Central Government had already announced and released Rs. 1500 Crores for the development of Amaravati when Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had himself laid the foundation stone for Amaravati.

However, things changed quite a lot when Jagan became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The 3 Capital bill that he announced in the assembly created quite the stir in the state, and still continues to do so. The 3 Capital bill poses a great threat to the farmers of Amaravati who gave away thousands of acres of farmland for the development of Amaravati into a great Capital.

The farmers of Amaravati have also staged protests for over 230 days now, and the protests are still going on, requesting the government to reinstate Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. Everyone thought that the central government would intervene at the right time and save Amaravati, but the Center filed an affidavit in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, making it clear that it has now say in the Capital of the state, and the sole power lies with the state government.

Now, the state government has requested the Central Government to allocate funds for the development of the 3 Capitals, under the 15th Finance Commission. Not just that, the AP government has asked for a staggering amount from the Central government, for the development of the state

It comes as a surprise why the government would want so much money – Rs. 1849 Crores for Judiciary buildings, Rs. 1397 Crores for Legislative buildings and Rs. 5099 Crores for Executive buildings. This is a huge amount to be given to any single state for its development.

It is now to be seen if the Central government will give such huge amounts of money to just one state for its development.
