11 Indian CMs Face Criminal Cases

According to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), as many as 11 of the India’s 31 Chief Ministers have criminal cases registered against them. Of the 11, eight CMs have “serious” criminal cases charged against them.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) has the highest number of criminal cases, 22, registered against him, of which 3 are labeled “serious criminal cases”. Some of the charges against him include ‘voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means’, being part of an unlawful assembly, rioting etc.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti have only one case each registered against them.

Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is also the richest CM of India, has three criminal cases registered against him. Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao on the other hand has two criminal cases against him. None of those cases on the Telugu CMs comes under “serious” category.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan (CPI) has the second highest number of criminal cases registered against his name, 11. Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal is ranked 3rd as 10 cases are charged against him.

The other CMs who have cases against them are of Jharkhand (8), Punjab (4), Uttar Pradesh (4) and Puducherry (2).
